Ghent, Belgium, 24 July 2026 – By judgment of the Ghent Enterprise Court dated 30 June 2026, Sequana Medical NV (Euronext Brussels: SEQUA) (the “Company” or “Sequana Medical”) and its wholly owned subsidiary DSRCo BV have been declared bankrupt.
SEQUANA MEDICAL NV was engaged in the development of innovative medical technologies for the treatment of patients suffering from severe fluid overload. The company developed, among other technologies, the alfapump®, an implantable medical device designed for patients with liver ascites, and DSR® therapy (Direct Sodium Removal), a technology aimed at treating fluid retention associated with heart failure.
At the time of the bankruptcy, the group employed a total of 43 employees. Four employees were based at the company’s registered office in Ghent, while thirty-five employees worked at the Zurich, Switzerland branch, where the assembly of the alfapump® took place. In addition, commercial operations in the United States were conducted through the subsidiary SEQUANA MEDICAL US INC, which employed four staff members.
The court-appointed trustees are currently exploring all available opportunities to maximize the value of the company’s operations, technologies and assets within the framework of a business transfer or continuity transaction. Particular attention is being given to safeguarding the interests of patients relying on the developed technologies, employees, creditors, and the company’s numerous retail and institutional investors and shareholders.
Trading in the shares of SEQUANA MEDICAL NV remains suspended on Euronext Brussels. The suspension is expected to remain in place at least until the bankruptcy proceedings have been concluded.
