Sequana Medical is a Swiss medical device company dedicated to improving patient lives through innovative technologies to manage fluid within the body.

Sequana's first therapeutic product, the ALFApump® System, is a new solution to manage ascites which can occur as a symptom of advanced liver disease, certain cancers or congestive heart failure. Other applications of this core pump technology are in development.

Noel L. Johnson, Ph.D. – Founder, President & CEO
Noel has extensive experience in designing medical devices as well as in operating and managing start-up medical device companies. Previously, Noel was Co-founder and President of HealthETech, Inc., a medical device company in Silicon Valley, California. His strong competence in designing and developing pump technologies and implantable devices was primarily gained through a 13-year tenure at Abbott Laboratories. Noel has his MS and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia.

Thomas W. Degen, Ph.D. – Chief Technology Officer
Thomas has a long experience in developing medical devices for portable applications, both in hardware and in software. Prior to joining Sequana Medical he worked at Caditech, a start-up company which developed a highly cross-linked platform for personal health care applications. There, he designed motor-driver ICs and CMOS imaging chips. Thomas has his MS in Electrical Physics from the University of Neuchâtel and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

Wolfgang Werner – Vice President of Quality Management & Operations
Wolfgang has a long experience in the area of regulatory affairs and quality management within the medical devices industry, as well as with European Regulatory Agencies primarily dealing with class III devices. Prior to joining Sequana Medical he was the Head of Regulatory Affairs of Berlin Heart GmbH, a leading company of Ventricular Assist Devices. He previously held positions at Terumo Heart, Orqis Medical and TUV Product Service and spent nine years working in the United States. Wolfgang has an engineering degree (Dipl.-Ing.) from the University of Applied Science in Munich, Germany.

Arnaud Puel – Director of Sales & Marketing
Arnaud has spent the last 15 years in international sales and marketing management positions, most of which focused on medical devices in Europe with Baxter and Boston Scientific. Arnaud has an in-depth experience with market development and has led major new technology launches in interventional oncology, neuroradiology and vascular surgery. Arnaud holds a Masters degree from the Institut Européen des Affaires Paris.

Steve Whittaker – Director of Clinical Affairs
Steve joined Sequana Medical with 16 years of experience leading clinical studies of active implantable medical devices. In his last role, he was the Director of Clinical Affairs Europe for Heartware, a medical device company with a revolutionary left ventricular cardiac-assist pump. Previous to his work in the private sector, Steve led a research unit within the UK NHS.
